Taking Steps To
Becoming Green
Going "Green" is the buzz word nowadays.  Everywhere you look; the media, newspapers,
news stories, even entertainment and movie plots and music, revolve around the environmental
issues facing us.
To some it is overwhelming.  To others its a source of irritation and they refer to those
people pushing green as "tree huggers" or "hippies"  Some criticize despite the research that the
danger to our planet is not real.  While others use fear and ugly statistics to promote their side of
the story while many times they have vented financial interest in the "green solution".
In some cases, the hype has led to many taking advantage of honest people seeking
responsibility for the Earth and making money off of them.  Labels can be very misleading and
information can be inaccurate and varied.
For examples, look at the natural or organic label on food.  Sometimes buying your food
from a local farmer who cannot afford the organic certificate is more sustainable than buying the
organic labeled food at the grocery store.  By visiting these farms you can see first hand their
humane and responsible practices.
Another example is the focus on ethanol as a fuel substitute.  More energy and fuel is used
to produce ethanol then what is produced.  It has caused corn shortages and more poverty in
third world countries.

Step # 1   Being informed and doing your research is important.

New and better ways of doing things are being discovered daily by creative people looking
for alternatives.  Don't be misled by supposed research or how something is labeled.  Looking at
both or the many sides of an issue and making a common sense decision is needed,  Just
because something says its "green" doesn't mean it is.  Looking at ingredients, or how something
is made, where it is going after use, what by product or waste is made all needs to be considered.
There is allot of information out there. Don't underestimate yourself as a source for
answers.  Imagination and creativity may lead you to think of new sustainable ways to do things
that have not been thought of by others.

Step # 2  Take small steps progressively to become more
sustainable and responsible stewards of the Earth.

Don't become overwhelmed by all the hype and information and not do anything.
Doing things correctly always takes more time, effort, and sometimes money.  But in the
end, as all experience has told us, it pays in the end to do things correctly and responsibly in the
first place.  Whenever we do things cheaply, better for only a select few, or what takes the least
effort we usually regret the consequences.
Making a yearly goal in a step to becoming green is a useful way to start.  By trying to do
everything at once, it would be easy to become overwhelmed and exasperated.  You could start
by recycling if that hasn't been something you have done yet.

recycle.
Many people opt to start with steps that relate to their health and bodies, interested in what
they are putting in their their bodies through their mouths or skin or even what hey are breathing
in.
We at Beloved Earth feel it is important to educate ourselves in what steps can be taken
with the goal of becoming more sustainable, while at the same time offering  a small and easy
step: environmentally friendly cleaning services or products.
